Focus and Scope
F@ro is an academic peer/reviewed journal published by the School of Social Sciences, Universidad de Playa Ancha. Since its first issue published in 2005, the journal has continued to accept manuscripts in the field of the Social Sciences uninterruptedly.
The purpose of our publication is to freely disseminate academic research and exchange knowledge by publishing studies and papers in the Social Sciences.
It seeks to promote reflection and scholarly debate on emerging and recurrent issues that affect social structures, organizations and interactions.
F@ro seeks to foster reflection and debate on the main contemporary issues and experiences. We invite the national and international scientific community to submit their contributions from the increasingly complex multidisciplinary approach that is required by the systematic study of Social Participation in the construction of the Communication and Knowledge Society, with special emphasis on Latin American contexts.
Peer Review Process
Submitted manuscripts will be first subjected to a process of internal review by the editors to see if they meet the requirements for publishing set by the editorial board.
All submissions should conform to the following requirements:
- Manuscripts must report original scholarly research.
- Manuscripts must follow methodological and scientific rigor.
- Opportunity, topicality, interest and transcendence of issue under study.
F@ro journal editors, with the consent of the editorial board, will send out the manuscripts for blind peer review by outstanding experts in the field(s), both national and international. F@ro journal editors will respect and accept the expert opinion of the reviewers. Authors will be sent copies of the referees’ evaluation.
These two reviewers will be selected by the journal editor. Reviewers will assess the merit of a manuscript, and evaluate whether it will be “accepted”, “accepted with changes” or “rejected”. For manuscripts “accepted with changes”, authors will be sent the reviewers’ comments with suggested changes and improvements to make before resubmitting their work. If the manuscript is “rejected”, the author will receive the reviewers’ evaluations, which include the specific reasons that motivated this decision.
If there are disagreements between the two experts’ evaluations, the manuscript will be sent to a third reviewer.
Peer review of the manuscripts will be carried out within 40 days, following submission.
Manuscripts accepted with changes will be sent to their authors who may resubmit them within 15 days for publication. The identity of the reviewers will be not revealed under any circumstances.

Ethical and Best Practice Guidelines and Editorial Policy
Author’s Guidelines By submitting an article to the journal F@ro authors state that the document has not been submitted in parallel to another scientific journal. The manuscript must be original and must have not been published elsewhere or be the restatement of extant research or even a slightly modified version of published material. Consequently, F@ro only welcomes original unpublished submissions. The data reported in the manuscript must be reliable and not modified to suit the theoretical or methodological approach used to conduct the research. Similarly, when contributors have collected data from human participants as subjects of study, authors must certify that such data has been obtained by a signed consent form and that authors have explained to subjects that participation was voluntary, informed and consented and that you have insured anonymity of both participants and institutions. Contributing authors are advised to conduct an exhaustive state of the art literature review of previously published work on the subject that synthesizes the most current, relevant work undertaken including the variety of epistemological and methodological approaches which have been used to address the stated problem and that the most significant scientific contributions in the field have been included. Authorship should be limited to those who have made a significant contribution to the theoretical discussion, state of the art review and data analysis as well as in the writing of the reported study. Authors are also advised not to add authors based on friendship, camaraderie or intellectual ties. Author(s), who have submitted a document for consideration that has not been published yet, may request the removal of the document stating the reasons for such a choice, and are freed after receiving the approval from the editorial board. Contributors are responsible for the theoretical views and conclusions presented in the manuscript, which may not be endorsed by the editorial board or the University of Playa Ancha. To Reviewers Reviewers are invited to participate voluntarily in the peer review process. Reviewers must be experts in the subject area and are asked to critically evaluate the manuscripts submitted for publication. Reviewers are strongly advised to disclose any potential conflict of interest to the editorial board and must treat the documents they receive as confidential. Potential reviewers must adhere to the editorial policies in the peer review process and F@ro Editorial Board seeks to provide an honest and constructive review. For this purpose, a structured review protocol is followed within the allotted time estimated by the journal. Thus, the board seeks to ensure respect for the author and the journal and promote a culture of quality management. About The Editorial Board The editorial board is committed to protecting reviewers’ and author’s anonymity, ensuring that the entire peer review process is carried out with transparency, in objective terms and that confidentiality is maintained during the whole process to ensure high quality. Facutad de Ciencias Sociales, Universidad de Playa Ancha Valparaíso, Chile | e-ISSN 0718-4018 http://www.revistafaro.cl. The editorial board is responsible for establishing procedures for timely review of material submitted and for informing authors of the result of the process within a maximum period of 60 days; the manuscript may be “accepted”, “accepted with minor correction”’ or “rejected”. Acceptance of the manuscript does not imply that the article will be published in the issue for which it was submitted. The journal editors reserve the right to publish the manuscript in an upcoming issue if the current issue has exceeded the allotted number of articles. If this is the case, author(s) will be informed when the accepted manuscript will be published.
