Abstract
Misiones Pedagógicas were an initiative of the Government of the Second Spanish Republic aimed at improving literacy and educational and cultural level of the most backward of the spanish population, mainly farmers, workers, children and people from hard to reach places .
In the Misiones collaborated prominent intellectuals, poets and artists like Federico García Lorca, Miguel Hernández, Rafael Alberti, Luis Cernuda and many others, as well as students, librarians and other people and other collaborators, all of enthusiastic volunteers from the work undertaken by the missions for the benefit of popular culture. Those organized exhibitions, poetry recitals, theatrical performances and other cultural activities to delight, but above all, the instruction of the people. The three years of the Civil War and the subsequent Franco dictatorship ended with this unique cultural experience in the history of Spain.
